Buying gold

A very common question for people who are at the beginning of standby and switch to an independent lifestyle goes something like this ... I have only received $ X. I know I need a supply of food, and I would probably a bit of gold and silver on hand, but what should I get first! There is a big issue, and most people screw this up sharply. (I have) I've found looking to buy their effective survival / emergency supplies such as Maslow's hierarchy of needs.

The hierarchy Maslov, if you need a high level, such as love, before you satisfy hunger and thirst, you will not take too long. Similarly, there is a hierarchy of needs for survival. You can see my picture on the hierarchy of survival needs and it is a work in progress and I would love your comments on it, but now we will deal with food and precious metals.

I will say that gold and silver is a good way to store / transport wealth and start against the devaluation of the dollar (inflation must be protected). But the key word here is "store of wealth." In order to save your wealth, you have to "wealth" in the first place has. When we check in with Webster, we see that the definition of wealth "is the abundance of material goods or valuable resources" or "good."

It would be obvious that you do not have enough "wealth to save" until you have a lot of basic survival items on hand ... mainly food and water. What I mean is that if You Have no food on hand to last a long time, why do not you buy gold or silver? I bought originally, silver and gold, because I thought it would be good for its own survival in a situation, but fast forward to survive with me for a second and picture yourself in a situation.

You have saved a lot of silver and gold... what now? You can not eat it. You can not fire him. You can not drink it. You can only use it to do trade in other goods and that you give to someone with a surplus of food and that you have gold / silver to find the trade. All that you'll be on a potential trade you as a person, gold and silver recall approach. This is obviously not good from an operational point of view of safety.

The longer you are without food or water, will more of your gold and silver to give you be willing to up the things you need. People instinctively understand their desperate situation and realize how much influence they have over you. In fact, you can store food for other goods to trade in gold or silver ... but if you need, you can consume more. In other words, to survive in a situation where you need food, but you do not need silver or gold.

There is a common joke among people who do not like gold. They say that gold is not useful, because when you're hungry, you will not be able to find someone with the 1000 bread for your ounce of gold trading. This is true ... and that is my point. If the person had been prepared with the Golden otherwise they would Enough to eat and gold would simply be a way to store their excess wealth.

As a very practical example, look at the recent hurricanes, earthquakes and storms of snow. 3-5 days of the disaster that was worth more: water, food or gold and silver? Now Everything is much more complicated when you are wrong, and space / weight, have a big problem. If so, you may want to take a couple of ounces of gold / silver instead of several extra pounds of food, but you still have to find someone with extra food that Actually want your silver or gold, to make it worthwhile to implement.

So I am opposed to precious metals? Absolutely not. I fully support the purchase of gold and silver ... just the right time. So when should you buy gold and silver start? There are no hard and fast answer and the answer depends on several factors, including your movement, space, number of caches on the size / term of your mutual help group, and a lot more set. All will have a different approach, but I will recommend this ... I would not buy gold and silver, until you food, water, fire, shelter, medicine, trauma, and tools are tools for self-sufficient to survive the breakdown in civil order lasts for a month or longer. Even then I would suggest that most of your money on the core business of survival items and some of gold and silver.
